The
modern city which today occupies the
Anchorage Bowl grew up downtown. Anchorage
was born as a railroad-construction
camp, and then became a boomtown when
oil was discovered in 1957.
Seven years
later, the Good Friday earthquake altered
the landscape, shaking solid ground
into a liquid state with destructive
results. A walk through the museums
and historic buildings gives a rich
glimpse into this fascinating past.
